In Google Docs, you can link to objects outside of the document, such as a chart from a Google Sheet. You can update the data feeding these objects all at the same time with the 'Linked objects' pane.

Step 1 - Below, we have a pie chart in a Google Sheet that we will copy and paste into our Google Doc.

Spreadsheet with a colorful pie chart displaying points scored by four teams. Team 4 leads with 34.5%. Background shows table data.

Step 2 - We are now pasting the chart into our Google Doc, and we want to 'Link to spreadsheet' so the data can be dynamic.

Dialog box for pasting chart with options: "Link to spreadsheet" and "Paste unlinked." Buttons: Learn more, Cancel, Paste.

Step 3 - To open the linked objects pane, go to 'Tools', then click 'Linked objects'.

Step 4 - The pane will open, and you will see a list of linked objects. You can:

  • Click on the object to be taken to where it is in the document

  • Click 'Update' to update an individual chart

  • Click 'Update all' at the bottom to refresh the data on all the charts or objects.
