Never Miss a Spreadsheet Update With Google Sheets Notifications

You don't have to keep a Google Spreadsheet open and hit the refresh button to keep up to date with its changes; we have Google Sheets Notifications for that.

You might have a shared sheet with your team that is very important to your project; you need to have all eyes on any changes. This is where the notifications can come in very useful. You can customise the notifications to send you an email when any change is made to the spreadsheet, or a form is submitted.

Step 1 - Open your Google Sheet and click the 'Tools' menu and 'Notification settings'.

Google Sheets Tools menu open with Notification settings submenu showing edit, comment, and conditional notifications over a spreadsheet

Step 2 - The 'Edit notifications' option will open the pop-up below. You can set up the notification to:

  • Notify you if any changes are made (this can generate a lot of notifications if it is a sheet with heavy traffic!)

  • A user submits a form

  • A daily digest of changes

  • An email straight away when a change is made

Make your selection and click 'Save'.

You can further customise the comment notification settings:

  • Get notified of all comments

  • Get notified of comments that @ mention you

  • None at all
