Google Drive is cloud-based storage split into two areas to store and collaborate on data. These are My Drive and Shared Drives. But what is the difference? What data do we store in them and who has access? Let's take a look at Google Drive storage.
My Drive
My Drive is your drive, it is individual storage that you own, like a personal drive. Users will not have access to anything in your My Drive unless you share it with them. You can create folders to organise your content within My Drive and upload files and folders from your computer directly to My Drive.
Shared Drives
Shared drives are team storage. Shared drive files belong to the team instead of an individual like in My Drive. If someone from the team leaves, the files and folders in the Shared drive remain where they are, meaning nothing goes missing and there are no disruptions with team members not being able to access files.
To summarise, individual storage = My Drive, team storage = Shared drives
Below are the business licenses you need for full access to Shared Drives
